How much chili can you eat in one sitting? Think you can handle some of the city’s best? It’s time to put your taste buds to the test as the 27th Annual Chili Cook Off kicks off this Friday.
A precursor to the ever-popular Western Week, the Chili Cook Off takes over 104 Street as the city’s culinary elite square off to see who’s worthy of bringing the proverbial heat. The audience votes for the best chili after going through sample bowls put together by more than a dozen of Edmonton’s top restaurants and chili vendors. Meanwhile, there’ll be live rodeo skills demonstrations and live music. Considering last year’s iteration took place in Churchill Square, the move to 104 Street will make the festivities feel quite intimate – aside from the fact that there will likely be around 6000 – 8000 hungry people coming through.
The 27th Annual Chili Cook Off goes from 11:30am to 1:30pm on November 3rd. If the thought of chili hasn’t already convinced you, here’s why you need to come down:
- There is nothing more comforting than a lunch of hot chili right before the weekend, and this is going to be a rough week for everyone. No excuses. Dig in!
- You can eat it over anything. While there’ll be bowls available at the Cook Off, you can always add a hearty helping of chili to your own lunch. This is the time to experiment!
- If the past two didn’t convince you, here’s some science; chili increases the level of your body’s endorphin and serotonin levels, thanks to a little something called capsicum. It’s the slow burn capsicum unleashes that sweetens your mood!
